I think the configure.in script has to be fixed in gnome-core. It
currently fails for me just because I don't have /var/log/messages, I
guess it is the log-viewer that does this. However, shouldn't it be
possible to specify which log to view runtime?
checking for /var/adm/messages... not found
checking for /var/log/messages... not found
configure: error: Cannot find messages log file, you should
specify one in --with-messages=<filename>.
A 'touch /var/log/messages' fixes the problem.
