I forgot to mention that we already provide for backward compatibility
with GConf through the "gconf://" module. Uses the data format provided
below, and is implemented as a wrapper over gconf to provide full
backward compatibility. (of course, when you are ready to throw away
GConf you can begin to use our more advanced full-featured methods like
file:// which also support seeking, and you will be ready).
