I completely agree with you that this thread is getting lame.
Remote components are useful, and you've given some nice examples of
that. I especially liked Alan's example o having a remote component
running on your IPAQ.

The problem is how to not kill the local case with xml encoded
icons. If that could be solved easily (e.g. if on the client side the
icon can't be found, only then request an encoded icon) I don't think
anyone would have a problem.
