I'm somewhat annoyed at the way multiload currently works, so I'm
thinking about making a replacement which also would support different
views, thus rendering cpumemusage superfluous. I'm hoping it could cut
down the number of entries in the monitor menu to about 3, all with
approximately the same interface.
I've sent a letter to the applets maintainers concerning some
implementation details, but never got any reply, so I haven't actually
started coding yet. Will do next week though, I think.
BTW, are you sure it is a good idea to couple applets with ordinary
programs? Not everyone running Gnome uses panels, and adding a panel
dependency may make some angry.
