Did you ever have a chance to test it on Alpha Linux? I'm
asking cause for me it doesn' work out here. Running RedHat
for Alpha 7.2. Here are the famous last words:

----------------------------------------------------------------------
e-table-group.c: In function `e_table_group_construct':
e-table-group.c:138: incompatible type for argument 4 of `gnome_canvas_item_construct'
make[3]: *** [e-table-group.lo] Error 1
make[3]: Leaving directory `/home/arwagner/tmp/gnome2/gal2-0-0.0.5/gal/e-table'
make[2]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/arwagner/tmp/gnome2/gal2-0-0.0.5/gal'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/arwagner/tmp/gnome2/gal2-0-0.0.5'
make: *** [all-recursive-am] Error 2

 make failed for module: gal2-0-0.0.5
this could happen for different reasons. please check if includes are set
correctly. some newer CVS packages put their includes in newly subdirs to
allow gnome 1.4 and 2.0 parallelbuilds. some older packs can't find these
includes because of broken configure.in files. you should tweak your include
path manually to make them accessible again. usually link the include subdirs
 to the include rootdir.

other issues: ctrl-c was pressed, or missing libraries. check config.log.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Do I understand it correctly that this is a problem of the
gnome2 source already? (Ah, I tried 0.3.0 of your script and
"world stable".)
