michael,
this is not the issue you think it is, so i suggest you just drop it.
it's not going to be a problem:
1. nobody is going to break the API maliciously
2. things will be fixed when the api changes
3. this wasn't a problem for things such as bonobo, evolution, and
nautilus which certain distributions have been shipping for quite
some time.
this is only an intellectual argument, and the only losers are the
users[1].
so please, can we just stop blowing it out of proportion?
[1] they are the losers in this argument, not losers in general
