I assume you're talking about #76360 being marked a dup of
#62650 ... If you look at #76360 and specifically the comment - "This
is a duplicate of #62652" - how else would you expect me to proceed ?

Havoc sent out a rather shorter mail with regards this that I
wholeheartedly agreed with

I have had absolutely zero interest in looking at 'fixing' the
status dock in the GNOME 2.0 panel, purely because of the fact that
there is no agreed spec. And I would nearly go so far as to say that
until there is an agreed upon spec, we should have *no* status dock
support ...
