Hi Philip. There are some slightly out of date docs in gnome-panel/docs.
They should be helpful, but take a look at
gnome-panel/libpanel-applet/test-bonobo-applet.c. It is a bare bones
implementation of a GNOME2 applet. Also you can look at the fish applet
(gnome-panel/applets/fish/) for another simple example. Otherwise the
documentation is lacking right now :(
