since getting make distcheck to work can be a real pain, especially after
development went on for some time without a release, it can be helpfull
and less time consuming to fix the project up to where it builds with
srcdir!=builddir before atempting make distcheck.
and since i've had tarballs break on me which passed make distcheck, i'm
always trying to build and install the release tarball in a seperate /tmp
or similar environment before actually loading it up.

or try to think "now that was easy!" instead, and you'll start with a more
positive attitude next time ;)
