Please, try to fix it along these lines:

	files.

Now the files are woring for me (gettext 0.10.38).  This command did the
trick (hopefully for you, too); native speakers please check:

for l in ja zh_TW.Big5; do
  cp $l.po $l.po.tmp
  LANG=C OLD_PO_FILE_INPUT=yes msgmerge -v $l.po.tmp  gdm.pot -o $l.po
done
