What about translating gettext.pot? This way an English proofreading
would happen automatically ;)

The ï looks good. I guess the trouble was mainly caused by the erratic
double quote.

Okay, as long as things work there is no need to dig out the old
annoyances. Maybe, confusing format specifiers were also mixed in
(%s)...

Yes, but that's exactly the kind of human beings Bruno is looking for.
Just describe the plural usage and Bruno will translate it into C "on
the fly"; then he will add it to the docs and the check program.
Especially the check is very helpful.
