KDE uses its own handling of plural forms, but the difference is
about the PO-file format, internals of kdelibs etc. The principle is the
very same one.
It started when GNU gettext got the support for plural
forms. That was the moment, when the fork happened and KDE got the support
for plural forms. No sure if it was 2.2 or 3.0 or something in between.
Since then, we fix these problems for every release :-( Even I've missed
some plural forms when coding. But translators caught it veery fast ;-)
