Greetings,
I just launched GNOME Toaster for the first time and got
a laugh. Its a good example of a vocabulary issue that
I think GNOME should eventually address.
As I go thru translation some over use of synonyms begins
to present itself. I think it would be easier on the user
(as well as translators) if a minimal vocabulary was used.
For example, some applications want to "Quit" others want
to "Exit". Are these two different actions? Can an app
quit without exitting? Can it exit without quitting?
GNOME Toaster gives you both choices! :-)
Another example are the terms "Properties", "Preferences",
"Options" and "Settings" which are almost always used for
the same thing (sometimes "Configuration" and "Setup" too).
But, couldn't GNOME have a recommended vocabulary that
simplified terminologies to benefit a consistant interface
across GNOME targetted apps?
Or is there such a thing? If not, I'd be happy to work
with a group of interested parties towards this end.
cheers,
/Daniel
