Well, it's not too complicated; we generally only have a stable branch and an unstable branch at any one time. This is similar to how various modules have a gnome-2-4 branch and HEAD. Right? Presently the "stable" branch is RHYTHMBOX-0_6 and unstable is HEAD. I doubt this will change for quite a while. (Now of course the above is for CVS; in arch i use a number of branches, but those all eventually map onto one CVS branch, so you don't need to worry about them)
