This commit: http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xdg/xdg-user-dirs/commit/?id=2a5792acc2810caa6a70c3c3bf153f7713789d45 ...pointed me to this bug report: http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23796 It seems the original singular string was only kept for compatibility reasons. I'd say it is safe for new/updated translations to use the same string. — Wouter
