The commit which transitions from intltool to meson was applied just 3
days ago.

Where is it in Gitlab? The commits I see in https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-video-effects/commits/master are older than 3 days

The problem is that xgettext autodetection of the file format doesn't
succeed (.effect is unknown to gettext).
We can workaround this by forcing --language=Desktop in XGETTEXT_OPTIONS
of Makevars. But I fear we'll have issues as soon as a different file
format is added to POTFILES.in.

Not sure about what this change implies... are more modules migrating to intltool and it will break stats? Sorry if the question has already been answered, but at this moment I don't remember it.
