Re: Ignoring source files with strings that will never be presented in the UI

Hi Michael,

I think you're right: if those strings will neve be shown in the GUI and adding them to POTFILES.skip does the trick, I don't see any problem with it.

If I'm wrong with this please let me/us know.

Hi all,

Just wanted to check some rationale regarding ignoring some
translatable files that contain strings that will never show up in the
UI.

Geary is using libpeas for plugins, which uses a desktop-file format
for plugin metadata such as human-readable names and descriptions.
Geary has both internal and optional plugins. The internal ones are
always loaded and are never presented in the UI, however libpeas
requires them to have a Name key in their desktop file regardless, and
hence this is showing up as a translatable string.

See this for example:
<https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/geary/-/blob/462edf7eb8f07014f5f160f49e9e217812f3c05e/src/client/plugin/special-folders/special-folders.plugin.desktop.in>
- currently it has a comment for translators to avoid translating it.

These files are currently listed in POTFILES.in since it's best
practice for all source files to be present there, but on the one hand
surely it would be better for these files to be skipped. So I'm not
sure what to do.

Can I just remove them from POTFILES.in and put them in POTFILES.skip
instead?
