Question about compiling CVS?

I had problems last time I tried to compile CVS and I gave up...but
now I really wanna be able to use it.  Should I remove my v.20 RPMs
first before trying to install?

Last time, GLIB seemed to work ok but after following the directions
and trying to compile GTK...I got errors about cross compiling and
something like AM_GLIB_PATH I think?

Could the RPMs have been screwing it up?
