Pronouncing GNOME

Charles W. Hubbard wondered about pronouncing 'GNOME'.

As I understand it, Richard Stallman requested in the original "GNU Manifesto" that,
to avoid confusion, the "G" be pronounced.

Since the initial "G" in GNOME stands for "GNU", it would follow that it would be
pronounced, too.

This was no less stupid a question than asking whether GNU should be pronounced. I
don't think that if anyone asked about pronouncing "GNU" they'd be razzed.

Of course, if any segment of the community likes the G to be silent, that's OK too.
It's only a name. Probably intentionally, it has as little to do with the code as
Hurd does.
