Well, for the Linux part, I'm using code from the library distributed
with procps but I don't use the same interface. Some parts of the
existing top libraries seem to be very Linux specific and I want to
keep libgtop as portable as possible.

Basically there are two possibilities:

(1) port the existing top library to use libgtop

(2) rewrite all applications using the top libraries.

Most of the panel applets use their own functions to read from /proc
so I only need to change about 50 lines of source code for each applet
to port it to libgtop.

GTop uses both the existing top library and reads from /proc itself
so I'll probable use (2).

I impored the top library from procps into CVS some time ago
(libgtop/libproc) - but I don't like to rewrite it; every Unix system
has it's own `ps' utility and terminal top already works on most systems.

Of cause, if someone absolutely wants to have GNU ps, GNU uptime and GNU
top portable to all systems - s/he should feel free to write it ...

Martin
