Meta-data and "file"

Hi,

I haven't been following anything, but here's a dodgy solution:
use the file command (or a modified form thereof).

It basically analyses a file, and tells you what type of file it is (eg
FLC animation file, 367 frames ... etc)
Just a suggestion.
