Maybe there's some way to make that more clear? The releases are
getting announced on Slashdot, for instance, so lots of newbies are
running over to try them out and don't realize they might have to hack
to compile. (It's just like the old days before RPM or autoconf when
you just expected it to take a few hours to compile some GNU software
on your Ultrix 2.2 machine).

There's a lot of excitement about GNOME, people want to use it. It
should be possible to harnass that and promote the project, but it
does require more work making interim releases.
