I just yesterday found The Brain, a (alas) win95/NT-only app at
www.natrificial.com, that lets one arrange one's "thought"s by stringing them
together web-like. I played with for a grand total of 5 minutes, but it
looked kinda cool. It also lets you invoke apps directly (did somebody say
Corba?), but, like I said, I haven't had time to play with it.
