XML is a file format, while OLE2 and OpenDoc implement a component
model. Nothing is stopping us from using XML as the on-disk
representation and it is actually a good idea. Every component is
free to use whatever file format they want: they will all end up in a
structured storage file.
(Structured storage is basically a filesystem withing a file and you
provide a CORBA interface to it).
