For one thing, you can automatically upgrade to the most recent version, or
any other version, for that matter, with a single command. As well, it's a
lot nicer about preserving any changes you've made to the source, letting
you easily resolve conflicts.
"cvs update" is so much easier than "lets see what my version is, download 8
patches, and install 'em all, resolving the .rej files"
