a few notes on gncal

Tonight I ran gncal for the first time. I have a few comments. The
first three aren't really specific to gncal, I just thought of them
while looking at gncal.

We need a standard abbreviation for "Control", and a standard way to
write "Control X". My personal preference is "Ctrl" for the abbrev,
and "Ctrl-X" to describe the key sequence. Comments? Whatever we
decide should go into the GUI guidelines.

We also need a standard for how the "About" item on the Help menu
should be phrased. I suggest "About Appname". Other choices that
I've seen in Gnome apps are "About..." and just "About". Comments?

Does anybody else find it weird that the standard key for Exit is
"Ctrl-Q"?

I think the current day should be highlighted in some color. Right
now the current day has an extra border, but it is hard to see.

As I click the buttons to change the month, relayout occurs, causing
the buttons to move. The buttons should remain stationary.

There should be some vertical space between the days of the month and
the Prev/Today/Next buttons. There should be some horizontal space
between the Prev/Today/Next buttons, and between the month display and
the day's schedule.

Another minor layout bug: move between Sept, Oct, and Nov 1998. The
month layout resizes in a weird way (meaning that the Prev/Today/Next
buttons move vertically). I think the month area should be vertically
fixed in size; just the amount of padding around the current month
should change.

Enjoy,
Tom
