using argp

For the linuxconf front end, I've got a bit of a precondition to meet;
the calling convention for linuxconf's gui front ends is already
defined, and I have to meet that spec. Unfortunately, I don't know
where the argp documentation is.
There are two possible ways that the front end will be called:
<programname> <remotehost>
or
<programname> --exec <all the rest of the arguments, no matter what,
are modifiers to --exec>
I have two questions: is argp capable of this? If so, roughly what
do I need to do?
If there's decent argp documentation somewhere, feel free to just
point me at it and let me start hacking at things myself...
Thanks,
