GIF error

I'm trying to install Gnome on RedHat 5.0 and I'm getting the following
error when trying to configure and make the gnome-libs tar
	
/gnome-libs-0.30.1/tools/convertrgb/convertrgb.c:100: undefined
reference to `g_LoadGIF'
make[2]: *** [convertrgb] Error 1

Can anyone give me a hand with this?  I've installed _everything_ listed
on the gnome "Getting Started"->"RedHat 5.0" page.
