As I understand the problem, it is not in file listing but in the common
paradigm. Having only two panels with underlaying concurent shell is quite
straightforward, and changing display code from text-based to gui doesn't
add anything new. But if you have a lot of directory windows around a screen,
you probably don't want CLI and shell beside each directory - this may
confuse anyone :) One must think, what CLI in mc is used for, and how it
is related with it's panels. My answer is - only to speed up typing in
several filenames, which are someway marked (or current, etc). GUI
equivalent of this is DND. Another function of CLI in mc - to keep
command and environment history. => should be one special window keeping
one (in the sence of environment) shell and capable to accept DND from
any file display windows. But if you train your xterm to accept dragged
files as typing in list of filenames - will it solve the problem? Or maybe
this is field where CORBA in someway may be applied.
