I had a delemma using GMC (4.5.27). In a large directory I wish to
move a file late in the alphabet into a directory early in the
alphabet. Because of the sorting of the files in the view the file
and the directory do not appear on the same page in GMC.
One would expect one (or both) of two options to be available:
1) Grabbing the file and moving to the top of the page would cause
the view to scroll to the top. Instead one of three things
occur.
- Nothing
- GMC restarts.
- GMC actually scrolls (happened only once) but does not
refresh the newly exposed part of the view. Dropping
the file on the area where the folder should be has no
effect.
Either way, I am unable to move the file.
2) The file can be <cut> from its current location and <pasted>
in the new location.
The three things that *did* work (once they occurred to me) were:
1) Drag the file to the desktop. Change directories. Drag the
file to the new location.
2) Drag the file into folder in the tree view.
3) Open another window. Go to target directory. Move file
between windows.
The first two were nail-biters. I thought it better to save a copy of
the file first. The last method is a bit inconvent.
Thanks
Gisli
PS: When I right-click on a folder I am offered Open/Copy/etc. If I
select Open I am asked to select an application to open the folder.
It would seem more reasonable to simply cd to the directory. It might
even be more convenient (especially in case 3 above) if one were
offered the choice of opening in another window.
