For each tarball, do:
./configure --prefix=/opt/gnome
make
make install
add /opt/gnome/lib to /etc/ld.so.conf
run ldconfig without parameters after compiling glib, gtk, imlib,
gnome-libs and in fact all other packages that create libraries.
