well I posted late last night, so I am not suprised :)

hmm, ok I assumed it was always the apps responsibility. window maker
does not seems to have an option to do this, at least not that I can find.

The problem with this is it is system wide. In most applications I want
both pics and text, it is only in a few that I want just one or the other.
I'm not sure how practical it would be to go an add the functionality to
overide the system wide default on just those apps, but thats what I would
like to do :)

ok I feel dumb, you're right, I just missed it.

I can duplicate this (and even seperate the task list and pager) by
running two pagers, each one with the other thing disbled. how safe si
this? (it hasn't crashed yet :) )

actually it is started by gnome-session, which is why I expected
gnome-session to kill it to0. One thing though, is that I am not running
anything from .xinitrx. I am running gnome-session from a tssh window,
because I am exporting it all to my NT machine running xwin32.

While money can't buy happiness, it certainly lets you choose your own
form of misery.
