Hi,
I am starting to notice a number of bugs, for lack of a better word, in
gnome. I have RedHat 5.2 and all of the latest RPMS through 4/14/99. I
use gnomesession and WindowMaker. I do have enligthenment installed.
1) RPM update since the RPMs of 4/10 are looking for some new groups,
some of which are not standard to RedHat. I did create these groups on
4/10, however last nights updates using the 4/14 RPMs still didn't find
them.
user gdm does not exist - using root
group gdm does not exist - using root
gdm
##################################################
group utmp does not exist - using root
gnome-libs
##################################################
group man does not exist - using root
mcserv
##################################################
Portion of my /etc/group file:
gdm:x:42:root,glenn
utmp::501:root,glenn
man::15:root,glenn
2) Root can no longer edit anything in the control center. I am back to
the old method of revising the various files and .order files manually.
All permissions on the directories and files are unchanged and set to
allow writng. I get this message when I run gmenu in an xterm. I do have
localhost.localdomain set in my /etc/hosts file:
# gmenu
_IceTransSocketUNIXConnect: Cannot connect to non-local host
localhost.localdomain
GnomeUI-WARNING **: While connecting to session manager:
Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols
specified are supported
and host-based authentication failed.
3) I can no longer shutdown using gnome shutdown. I have to
cnrl-alt-backspace to get out.
4) gnumeric and libgtop-examples seem to have been made on an old system
that has guile.so.2 installed on it. All of the other RPMs, that use
guile, are up to guile.so.4. Is there a legitimate reason for the old
guile?
Appreciate any help that can be lent,
Glenn
