Problems under XiG AccelX 4.1.2?

Are there known problems running gnome 1.0 on Xi Graphics'
Accelerated-X 4.1.2 server?  I've tried several times over
the last 6 weeks to test drive gnome for the first time,
just now with the latest Red Hat RPMS from ftp.gnome.org,
and each time the X-server crashes within a very short time
(<1min).  A typical console output is:

  xscreensaver-command: no screensaver is running on display :0.0

        You can re-enable it with "xset s on".

  console: cannot open console

  aborting...

I've got a stock RH 5.2 system with a Matrox G200 graphics adapter.
Anybody know what's going wrong?  Is my system misconfigured?
