Mixer applet and gmix interact poorly

I just added the mixer applet to my panel, which is very useful, but I've
found that if I try to start gmix from the context menu, gmix doesn't read
the current main volume before setting the slider and thus the mixer.
That means every time I start gmix from the applet, the volume cranks all
the way up, blasting out my poor ears.

I probably don't have time to look into this, but if no one else does in
the next few days I'll see if I can determine what's wrong.
