actually that's not the warning from the panel but most likely one
of the applets is complaining that the panel died
can you run this with gdb ... and when it segs can you type "list"
<enter> and "bt" <enter> in gdb and send me the results?
if it segs when the pointer is still grabbed ... switch to a text console,
kill the panel process, and try it again, but this time running the
gdb from the console and setting the DISPLAY variable to
point to :0 ... then when the panel segs .. switch to the console
and see what it prints
