CDE has this too. The problem (like with the watch cursor) is that
it's a global indication, which goes against the fact that all this is
running on a multi-tasking system.

That is, you still should be able to launch other apps while the one
you've clicked on is starting, and the "activity indicator" should let
you be aware of that.
