[Philippe Defert cern ch]

I generated succesfully control-center 0.99 with egcs 1.1.1 on the
following platforms: 

sparc-sun-solaris2.5.1
sparc-sun-solaris2.6
i686-pc-linux-gnulibc1
i686-pc-linux-gnu
alpha-dec-osf4.0b
hppa1.1-hp-hpux10.20
powerpc-ibm-aix4.3.2.0
mips-sgi-irix6.5

Except some libtools problems, I did not find problems:

- on mips-sgi-irix6.5, libtool contained "ld -32" which had to be
  edited to "ld".

- powerpc-ibm-aix4.3.2.0, the -Wl,-bbigtoc is often needed
