I have libpng-1.0.1 installed now and I still have the same problems with compiling Control-Center
to use the newer libs, and with png transparencies. I haven't tried to use imlib-1.8.2 with the
0.99.3 packages, but I think the 0.99.3 packages require imlib-1.9.0 anyways.
