     I would class myself as a "newbie" who uses cvs for the fun of 
     "bleeding edge" - I'm quite happy to go back to using the daily 
     snapshots - if the strain of people like me accessing cvs is a 
     continuing problem
     
     I started to use cvs as a way of saving bandwidth in general - update 
     only what has changed - the problem only seems to have started in the 
     last week or so - if there has been a massive increase in users like 
     myself then maybe a developers only access to cvs is necessary - 
     better that than make their difficult job harder :)

I would like to STRONGLY recommend for some people to just use 
the daily snapshots found at ftp.jimpick.com - This is an alternative 
which i use to CVS. Right now, I don't think anybody needs to have 
read access to GNOME CVS unless they are a developer - One 
alternative, which may not be very nice is to limit read access to 
the people with 'write' access (i.e. Only people with actual 
applications or actually working on GNOME are allowed to get it) - 
This should prevent 'newbie' and 'non-developers' from using 
anoncvs just for the "fun" of "bleeding edge"
