reinstalling is 'the windows way'.  don't need that here.  you'll probably want
to copy your .m4 files from /usr/share/aclocal to /usr/local/share/aclocal, then
run aclocal.  that cleaned up my problems when i yanked my debian packages and
installed auto* from source.
