Panel Gdk Error

I'm getting a problem with gnome-0.30 - when I start the panel, I get a
Gdk error:
Initializing CORBA for panel...
Gdk Message:
** ERROR **: sigsegv caught
I've read that there is a problem with CORBA/ORBit when it starts, trying
to resolve hostnames. Could this be it?
