Device icons in Redhat 6.0

Greetings,

I recently installed Redhat 6.0 with the GNOME desktop.  Everything is working
smoothly except for the fact that no device icons are appearing on my desktop.
I do have the file manager open, so that's not my problem.  When I right-click
on am empty area of the desktop, no option to scan mountable devices appears.
