I just picked up a new SB 16 PCI which I guess is the Creative/Esoniq
es1371. The first thing I had to do was delete the lines for my old card
from /etc/conf.modules. Then, during boot, there were errors reported in
the /etc/isapnp.conf file - so I renamed it to isapnp.conf.bak.
I rebooted (concerned about the errors during the last boot) and ran
sndconfig. No errors - seems to work. Though I question it's
capabilities and configuration. I think I should have hunted around for
a normal old ISA SB 16. Here's some output for comparison...
p/o /proc/pci
Bus 0, device 15, function 0:
Multimedia audio controller: Ensoniq Unknown device (rev 6).
Vendor id=1274. Device id=1371.
Slow devsel. IRQ 18. Master Capable. Latency=96. Min
Gnt=12.Max Lat=128.
I/O at 0x1800 [0x1801].
p/o /etc/conf.modules
alias sound es1371
(no mpu? isn't mpu-401 the midi device?)
dmesg...

(dma timed out confuses me)
I'm running kernel 2.2.7 on RH5.2.
