gnome-libs libintl.h make error, anyone have any ideas ?

Hey,

I'm trying to install gimp from the tarballs.  Configure seems to run fine, 
but when I make, I get this error :

c -fPIC -DPIC gnome-config.c -o gnome-config.lo

.../libgnome/gnome-i18nP.h:17: libintl.h: No such file or directory

I'm a linux novice.. So I'm not versed in lib's.  Any help or ideas
appreciated..
