can install gnome apps from scratch ..error...please help

hi guys
if i want to install some gnome applications on my system
(suse 6.1 linux with newest gtk gnome e stuff)..rpm...
and i want to run make after a scuccessfull ./configure run
i get the following erors:
main.c:10: gnome.h: No such file or directory
In file included from main.c:21:
menubar.h:4: gnome.h: No such file or directory
In file included from main.c:24:
toolbar.h:10: gnome.h: No such file or directory
make: *** [main.o] Error 1

this was an error from trying to compile gtoaster 0.1
but i also get these errors on other tgz applications i tried to 
install...
what is wrong why dont it find the3 header filez?
should i install the gnome.tgz packages?
