After removing glib.h I make install glib-1.2.0 because reinstalling didn't
replace glib.h:

This is a different error.  I can probably get back the original error by
uninstalling gtk+-1.2.0 and using gtk+-1.1.15 which is what I had to do to get
gnome-libs-0.99.8.1 installed.  The above is compiling gnome-core-0.99.8.1

This is comiling gnome-core-1.0.0.  I only have gnome-libs-0.99.8.1 libraries
installed because I couldn't get gnome-libs-1.0.0 to compile.
