Hi, I just tried to swallow XEyes into my panel (mostly on a whim) and X
is now unusable. Why? Because some nasty interaction between the panel
startup and E's startup is causing the panel (which controls my X session at
the moment) to crash on startup. In addition, when I first swallowed XEyes, I
got a handlebox in the panel where the applet should have appeared, but the
program ran in a window external to the panel. Closing the window caused the
panel to die.
Incidentally, shouldn't the panel be able to deal with ill-behaved applets?
I hereby propose that one of the panel developers write a deliberately
crash-prone applet, insert it into his/her panel, debug, and repeat until it
stops going down in flames because of a client...I don't mind messed-up applets
as much as the fact that they can kill my panel.
