I use glibc-2.1, but am not experiencing any such problems. Have you checked
if everything is linked against glib/gtk-1.2? Most segfaults (on startup)
that I've had lately were caused by programs linking against two versions
of glib or gtk. If this is not the problem, what does a backtrace in
gdb say?
