ICE in installation

So, (newbie-to-gnome here) I followed the instructions, put it all in, and
after lots of ldconfigs, lots of rpm -Uvh --force  I got all the RPMs ine.
When I startx I get the ICE stuff, then crashes out of X back to command line.

I am stumped. Now what do I do?
